Artistic Office of a Notary by Dolgopiatova Interior Design

Tucked away on the first floor of a historic building in Kyiv, Anna Bakay’s notary office defies the usual expectations for a legal workspace. Instead of a sterile environment, it resembles a private art gallery or a serene creative studio. This project was driven by a clear vision: to create a space defined by quietude, tactile experiences, gentle lighting, an intimate connection with nature, and a deliberate absence of visual clutter. Its location on Tereshchenkivska Street offers views both onto the lush greenery of Shevchenko Park and a peaceful inner courtyard, setting the tone for a tranquil office atmosphere. Designed to accommodate five team members, the layout favors a harmonious and fluid environment rather than compartmentalized functionality.

Balancing Natural Materials

The design thoughtfully incorporates wood, ceramics, and textiles, weaving these natural elements into a warm and welcoming setting. The textures invite touch and interaction, creating a sensory richness that goes beyond visual appeal. Wood surfaces add an organic warmth, while carefully chosen ceramics provide subtle artistry and craftsmanship. Textiles soften the space and introduce layers of comfort and tactility. Together, these materials create a palette that feels both grounded and elegant, supporting the office’s intent as a calm and focused haven where professionalism and creativity meet.

Light and Atmosphere

Soft, diffuse lighting plays a pivotal role in shaping the office’s atmosphere. Instead of harsh overhead fluorescents, the space is bathed in gentle, natural light during the day, filtered through expansive windows that look out onto the park and courtyard. This connection to the outdoors not only brings in daylight but also cultivates a sense of openness and calm. In the evening, carefully positioned lamps provide warm pools of light, enhancing the tactile qualities of the materials and preserving the office’s quiet ambiance. The lighting scheme was clearly designed with mindfulness, ensuring it supports concentration and comfort without distraction.

A Minimalist Approach to Clutter

One of the project’s most striking qualities is the intentional absence of visual noise. Every element was chosen and placed with restraint, allowing the space to breathe and the eye to rest. Storage is discreet and integrated, keeping paperwork and office essentials out of sight but within easy reach. Surfaces remain clear, and decorative accents are minimal yet meaningful, reinforcing the space’s identity as both a professional office and a refined artistic environment. This minimalist approach not only enhances the aesthetic but also promotes a clear, peaceful mindset—essential for the kind of thoughtful work that happens here.
