Inside Ralph Lauren's Timeless Homes: A Journey Through Iconic Interiors

Design Insight

Ralph Lauren’s approach to interior design is a masterful blend of timelessness and storytelling, where authenticity and craftsmanship take center stage. His ability to create spaces that feel both personal and enduring showcases the power of design rooted in heritage and emotional connection.

Ralph Lauren’s Most Beautiful Homes From Our Archives

When it comes to interior design, Ralph Lauren’s name is synonymous with timeless elegance and enduring style. Since launching his home collection in 1983—the first from an American fashion house—Lauren has continually blurred the lines between fashion and interiors with an unmistakable signature. Over four decades later, his influence remains as potent as ever, captivating new generations with vintage treasures, iconic textiles, and seasonal rituals like the much-loved Ralph Lauren Christmas. At 86, Lauren continues to innovate, recently unveiling Meadow Lane, a collection infused with the nostalgic charm of seaside summers and sun-bleached fabrics. Delving into our archives reveals why Ralph Lauren homes feel less like showrooms and more like invitations to live beautifully and authentically.

2005: The Quiet Charm of Ralph’s Montauk Retreat

Long before Montauk became a coveted getaway, Ralph Lauren and his wife Ricky found solace in a cedar-shingled home built in 1940, nestled among dense greenery and whispered to by the Atlantic waves. The house, modest in scale and design, boasts low ceilings and warm wood finishes that exude a cozy, unpretentious comfort. Here, Ralph’s signature restraint shines—he chose to preserve the home’s original integrity, respecting the way it followed the natural contours of the land.

Teak chaise lounges dressed in stonewashed denim cushions from Ralph Lauren Home and vintage towels speak to the brand’s dedication to craftsmanship and subtle luxury. It’s a lesson in knowing when to intervene and when to let a space tell its own story. This Montauk refuge captures the essence of Lauren’s approach: quiet sophistication grounded in authenticity and a profound respect for place.

2010: A Minimalist Shift in Ralph’s Fifth Avenue Apartment

Ralph Lauren is often associated with richly layered interiors filled with classic Americana and eclectic accents. Yet, in 2010, he surprised many by transforming his Fifth Avenue duplex into a minimalist sanctuary. Gone were the signature plaids and heavy textures, replaced by an all-white palette, dark wood floors, and sweeping views of Central Park. The space feels light and ethereal—a deliberate retreat from the designer’s usual vibrancy.

What remains constant, however, is the storytelling woven into every corner. Rather than high-profile art pieces, the apartment features deeply personal objects: a Star Wars figurine gifted by his children, a Batman painting created by his nephew, and a Fred Astaire-inspired sculpture near the fireplace. Even in its pared-down purity, the home resonates with warmth and personality, proving that minimalism can be rich with narrative and soul.

2018: The Rugged Elegance of Double RL Ranch

For his 50th anniversary in design, we ventured to the sprawling Double RL Ranch just outside Telluride, Colorado—an estate so vast it outmeasures Manhattan. This property is a testament to Lauren’s deep-rooted love of American heritage, blending rugged Western charm with refined craftsmanship. Within its hand-hewn cabins, you’ll find leather sofas that invite relaxation, Stickley rocking chairs anchoring spaces with tradition, and antique Navajo blankets that tell stories of the land and its people.

The ranch is also home to a screening room illuminated by elk-horn chandeliers and bedrooms layered with vintage quilts dating back to the early 1800s. During our visit, we experienced the spirit of Americana embodied by Lauren’s vision—a fusion of history, culture, and personal expression that feels both grand and intimate. Oprah Winfrey, speaking at the anniversary celebration in Central Park, captured this sentiment perfectly when she recalled her first sign of success: a set of Ralph Lauren towels. “What is real is what lasts,” she remarked, encapsulating the designer’s enduring legacy.

2026: Meadow Lane and the Timelessness of Ralph Lauren Home

Ralph Lauren’s latest home collection, Meadow Lane, pays homage to the romantic allure of seaside living. Inspired by carefree summer days, gentle ocean breezes, and the casual elegance of worn chambray and sun-faded denim, this new line invites you to bring the relaxed beauty of the coast indoors. The palette conjures visions of blue skies, sandy beaches, and a sense of effortless comfort that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

In our April 2026 feature, Lauren reflects on how he has maintained relevance across decades without chasing fleeting trends. The answer lies in a devotion to warmth, craftsmanship, and storytelling—a design philosophy that values spaces as extensions of ourselves. Meadow Lane perfectly illustrates this ethos, offering timeless pieces that evoke memories and inspire new ones, all while embracing the simple joys of home life.
