5 TRENDS FROM THE 1980S THAT ARE BACK IN FASHION NOW

5 TRENDS FROM THE 1980S THAT ARE BACK IN FASHION NOW

1. Floral print

Originating in the time of Marie Antoinette, floral print got a second wind in the hippie culture of the 70s and smoothly migrated to the interiors of the 80s. It mottled in upholstery, wallpaper, textiles and tableware. Bold patterns with colored and textured backgrounds provided visual interest and depth to rooms, filled them with warmth, positive atmosphere and coziness.

For a modern interpretation of the trend it is worth choosing prints with large flowers, leaves, images of birds. It is best to focus on a natural, pastel or exotic color scheme. If in the 80's in floral motifs decorated the whole room, today it is enough to have one accent wall.

For example: VAN GOGH CUSHIONS

2. Pastel palette

After the vegetal riot of hippies and disco glitter of the 70's in the interiors came the color calm. The palette of the 80's was headed by soft shades of pink, blue, sandy and muted green. They were often arranged in geometric shapes and patterns, accompanied by bold minimalist neon accents and abstract art.

Pastel color combinations are still loved by designers today. Powder pink, soft blue, peach, mint are used as both background and accent colors. They are easily mixed with each other and with the base colors (white, gray and black).

3. Glass block walls

Those who have stayed in hotels built in the 1980s are probably familiar with one of the key finishing materials of that time - glass blocks. They replaced windows and shower screens, zoned rooms, preserving soundproofing, natural light and privacy.

In 2023, the variety of shapes, colors and design of glass blocks has greatly expanded the scope of their use: they are not only walls and screens, but also kitchen aprons, furniture, false windows, original accessories.

4. Mottled carpets

Wall mottled carpet found itself in demand these days interior styles: eclecticism, boho, scandi, retro, ethnics. Bright fluffy handmade cloths will serve as a distinctive accent, soften smooth minimalist surfaces, add a note of playfulness, warmth and coziness.

For example: BOHEMIAN RUGS

5. Tropical motifs

Another interior hit of the 1980s was the theme of the tropics: leaves and flowers were painted on wallpaper, textiles and tiles, and in the corners of the rooms - tubs with sprawling palms, lemons or ficuses. Instead of live plants, artificial ones were used, and green was the new black.
